President Obama has been waging a war on American business and the coal industry for months. And now he has opened up a new front in his war on energy:
Energy Secretary Steven Chu Thursday drove the final nail into the coffin of the proposed $96 billion Yucca Mountain storage facility for highly radioactive waste, brushing aside critisism in a tête-à-tête with Republican lawmakers, telling them that “we can do a better job.”Yucca Mountain has never been opened so there is no nuclear waste stored in the facility. But if you're good at logic and stuff, you might be wondering where all the country's nuclear waste will go under Obama's "plan." Good question...

...Chu, a Nobel Prize-wining physicist, said the Obama administration believes the United States’ nearly 60,000 tons of spent nuclear fuel should remain at nuclear power plants while a new, comprehensive plan for waste disposal is developed, according to a C-SPAN broadcast of the hearing. Here's the situation, broken down to simple math:
The spent fuel, growing at the rate of 2,000 tons a year, now is being held in pools and above-ground concrete containers at reactor sites.

Dangerous Leftist Ideological Vision + Lack of Alternative Plans = Happy Obama
Hey, that's the same math behind the closing of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay! Now we're going to have spent nuclear fuel and terrorists in communities across the country! How's THAT for Hope and Change?

We've all heard this before: One Big Ass Mistake America.
Maybe all of Obamas elitist buddies can pay for health care, stimulus, and store nuclear waste in their back yards!
Maybe we can replace terrorist at Gitmo with radioactive waste??? At least it's be a step up...
Although clearly a setback for nuclear and likely supported whole-heartedly by Liberals... there is a different reality.
France, which gets 80% of its electricity from old-style Westinghouse-designed nuclear reactors has no Yucca mountain. It claims no nuclear waste problem.
How is this possible ?
The answer is: all nuclear waste is stored on-site until cool enough (25+ years) than REPROCESSED back into fuel for reuse.
Old American technology... making France a low-carbon friendly nation.
Let's not forget who first shot down the central storage and processing facility - Carter, the proto Obama. This was vetoed after Nuc plants had been promised it's use as long term storage and were left scrambling for structures and permits as that was yanked from them.
