1/20/10: Erroll Southers Withdraws

Erroll Southers: Another Obamanee Who Was Not Ready for Primetime

Erroll Southers will not be heading up the TSA:

The Obama administration's choice to lead the struggling Transportation Security Administration withdrew his name from consideration Wednesday, just weeks after revelations that he had provided misleading information to Congress prompted several Republicans to suggest his nomination would not move forward without a fight.

Much like disgraced former "green czar" Van Jones - who resigned early Sunday morning on Labor Day weekend - the Southers announcement seems timed to minimize the PR damage. In the wake of Scott Brown's victory in the Massachusetts senate race, it is safe to assume the Southers story won't get much notice.

And Southers is blaming everyone but himself, much like Van Jones . Compare the statements:

Erroll Southers statement:

"It is apparent that this path has been obstructed by political ideology. My nomination has become a lightning rod for those who have chosen to push a political agenda at the risk of the safety and security of the American people. This partisan climate is unacceptable and I refuse to allow myself to remain part of their dialogue."

Van Jones statement:

I am resigning my post at the Council on Environmental Quality, effective today.

On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me. They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide.

Still no word on when Michael Meehan will withdraw his nomination to the Broadcasting Board of Governors.
