7/6/10: Big Sis Napolitano to Block "Controversial" Websites

Hey, remember when President Obama said that information was a bad thing?
"And with iPods and iPads, and Xboxes and PlayStations -- none of which I know how to work -- information becomes a distraction, a diversion, a form of entertainment, rather than a tool of empowerment, rather than the means of emancipation. So all of this is not only putting pressure on you; it's putting new pressure on our country and on our democracy."

Looks like Janet "Big Sis" Napolitano agrees:
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) from the federal agency's computers, is blocking certain websitesincluding halting access by staffers to any Internet pages that contain a "controversial opinion," according to an internal email obtained by CBS News.

Kind of ironic that the TSA is blocking access to websites, yet Obama nominated Errol Southers to run the TSA. Southers, you may remember, admitted to illegally accessing a federal database to dig up dirt on his estranged wife's new boyfriend. Back then, Southers' actions were brushed off as an honest mistake. Now, Southers wouldn't be allowed to surf the web.

Of course, this will be explained away as a means of getting federal employees to work more efficiently. You see, if they can't read Drudge or other "controversial" websites, they can focus on their jobs. Remember, Obama's Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan thinks the government's reasons for restricting free speech are more important than the actual restrictions on free speech.

So think of this as another baby step in limiting freedom of speech. Hopefully, the Obama administration will be too incompetent to take this any further.
