Michelle Obama has chosen to dedicate herself to fighting childhood obesity:
First lady Michelle Obama has chosen what she hopes will be her legacy for the nation: the "Let's Move" campaign to curb childhood obesity. No one can argue with her target. About two-thirds of American adults, and about a third of American children, are overweight or obese.
But the "epidemic" of childhood obesity - and American obesity - is a myth. In fact, the entire storyline of an obese American population is based on an outdated and flawed measurement known as Body Mass Index (BMI).
What is BMI?According to the
Department of Health and Human Services, BMI is a measure of body fat based on height and weight. If a person's BMI is between 25 and 29.9, he or she is considered "overweight." A person with a BMI over 30 is considered "obese."

A similar method is used to calculate a child's BMI (

Brad Pitt and LeBron James Are Overweight? Shaq is Obese?
BMI calculations are far from perfect. The Center for Consumer Freedom called BMI "bogus" back in 2005:
Actor Brad Pitt, who stars in the action-comedy Mr. And Mrs. Smith opening Friday, is many things. Rich. Talented. Attractive. And overweight.
The same government standard responsible for telling us that 65 percent of Americans are "overweight" or "obese" classifies this hunk as a chunk. Pitt, who plays an assassin-for-hire in his new flick, has been gunned down by the Body Mass Index (BMI), a measurement that separates us into government-approved and officially fat categories by taking into consideration only our height and weight. A BMI of 25 or more makes you overweight, and a BMI of 30 or more makes you obese. At a reported six feet tall and just over 200 pounds, Pitt's BMI is a pleasantly plump 28.
Pitt, of course, is not alone. Take his Ocean's 12 co-stars, Matt Damon and George Clooney. They're also "overweight."
And from the big screen to the big game: Superstar NBA player Shaquille O'Neal is considered "obese," while basketball's LeBron James, baseball great Alex Rodriguez, and U.S. swimmer Gary Hall Jr. are all officially "overweight."

Hmm... That's pretty ridiculous... It gets worse...
BMI: A Dated and Deeply Flawed Statistical Tool
BMI-believers point to statistics that indicate Americans have been getting fatter in recent years... After all, isn't an obesity epidemic sweeping across America?
To answer that question, we need to understand the history of BMI. The concept of BMI was developed by a Belgian statistician Adolphe Quetelet in the mid-19th century. The method for calculating BMI has remained unchanged for over 150 years and by now its flaws are well-known to the scientific community. Wikipedia has an entire section about BMI's "Limitations and Shortcomings":
Some argue that the error in the BMI is significant and so pervasive that it is not generally useful in evaluation of health.[14][15] University of Chicago political science professor Eric Oliver says BMI is a convenient but inaccurate measure of weight, forced onto the populace, and should be revised.[16]
The medical establishment has generally acknowledged some shortcomings of BMI.[17] Because the BMI is dependent only upon weight and height, it makes simplistic assumptions about distribution of muscle and bone mass, and thus may overestimate adiposity on those with more lean body mass (e.g. athletes) while underestimating adiposity on those with less lean body mass (e.g. the elderly).
A 2005 study in America showed that overweight people actually had a lower death rate than normal weight people as defined by BMI.[18]
...
A further limitation relates to loss of height through aging. In this situation, BMI will increase without any corresponding increase in weight.

Geez... But what about all of the studies that show how childhood and adult obesity numbers have skyrocketed in recent years? Well, get a load of THIS:
The scale, which is used universally in clinical trials assessing the health risks of weight, has remained largely intact since the 19th century. The categories were revised downwards in 1998, sending many “normal” people into the overweight class with a single keystroke.

Bingo! That's all you need to know about the obesity myth. With all of BMI's flaws, how can anyone believe the statistics that say we need Michelle Obama and big labor to save the nation's children from the horrors of obesity? Can we just chalk this up to another case of questionable scientific claims being used to prop up Obama's radical agenda?
